Binita Mandal, 28, was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment and a 30,000 Rs. fine for involvement in a drugs case in Birgunj Jail. As it stands, Binita has finished her sentence and is due to be released. However, she cannot afford to pay the fine. If this remains the case, she faces a further 2 years imprisonment to pay off her debts at a rate of 25 Rs. per day.
Binita has an 8 year old son , who is currently living with her mother- and father- in-law. She misses him as she already lost her husband, and wants to be released so she can be reunited with him. The kindness of her fellow inmates is touching; they have raise 10,000 Rs. among them. We at Setu are appealing to our well widgets for sponsorship of 20,000 Rs. to fund her release and reunite her with her son.
