The staffs of Setu Nepal happened to visit central jail and rescued him on 2nd December 2005. His mother was sentenced for six years because she was accused of girl trafficking. She came in Kathmandu with her husband in 2000, all the way from Nuwakot and was living at Gongabu, Samakhusi. Her husband was working as a caterer and anyhow they were managing their lives. But in mid 2001 they had to three guests (one girl and two male) from their hometown Nuwakot. Those two male were actually the traffickers and they were in the process of taking that girl to India. They held at Kanchi lama home. Those two men had lied the girl. After some days those men took the girl to India. Later the family of that girl came to know that their daughter and the traffickers were held in Kanchi lama’s home and they thought that she was also involved in trafficking. So they filed a petition in the name of Kanchi Lama and sentenced her for six years.
When she was sentenced she was pregnant of three months. So after six month and half months of imprisonment she gave birth to Krishna.
He is smart, bright and intelligent kid. He is easily intermingling type of kid as well. He is also good in his study and secures good marks in his exam.

Manju and her twin sister Anju came to SETU Half Way Home in 14th June 2006 along with their mother Suvidha Nepali. They both were 6 months old when their father was killed by the Army in 2002 while collecting fire-wood in the jungles alleged him as a Maoist sympathizer. The dead body of their father was not given to the family by the army till now nobody knows what had happened to the dead body. The hapless widow was taken to the Court of Law by some law practicing volunteers. She fought the legal battle. The Court gave ruling in favor of her and dismissed charges of RNA. It ordered the State to pay rightful compensation which fell into deaf ears of the State. She had no flicker of hope that the Sate would ever do any thing to heal her wounds.
Their elder sister who is living with their grand parents is studying in grade 3 and an organization called SEED (Society for Environment Education Development) has been providing all the educational materials and uniform for this kid. Suvidha doesn’t have to bear anything.
Suvidha mother of these twins have started her sewing training. She wants to open her small tailoring shop and wants to help her children for their education. SETU has been providing counseling and adult literacy classes for her. She is also engaged in yoga classes. |

Biraj Kapali who was born in 2056 B.S, is the eldest son of Shova Giri and Bidhur Kapali. His mother was sentenced to jail in Mangsir 11, 2063 (2006) as she was involved in drug smuggling case. Bikram father is suffering from paralysis so his mother had opened a small local hotel in Kalanki for living. She used to work in shop all day time while her three children used to take care of her husband after school. Among her daily costumers, some of them were drug addict. They frequently come in her shop in evening and stay in corner shop and drink local alcohol. They used to talk in low voice and cover themselves in a way so no one can see what they are doing. As they were her regular costumers so she never bothers to identify what they were doing by staying so close. One afternoon few police man came in her hotel and told her to come with them in near by police station. In police station, they accuse her of selling drug among youngster. She tried to defend herself but the presence of drug addict costumer in her shop make her case more complicated. She was unable to show any proof of being innocent. After that, case was filed against her and she was sentenced to jail for three years.
After she went to jail, Biraj along with his younger brother, Bikram Kapali and sister, Hasina Kapali, were under his father protection that cannot move from one place to another due to paralysis. They have to quit school as their father has no to money to pay. As Biraj had no one to control him, he never stayed at home and used to play with street children. When Setu Staff brought his brother Bikram under its protection, Setu was unable to bring Biraj as he has to look after his father. Seeing his interest in education, Setu had decided to support him in education.
So, SETU Nepal has been searching for a sponsor for Biraj who can support him for education so that he can start his education and become a good human being and a good citizen of the country.
Please if anyone is interested to support this child’s education than do let us know. Your invaluable support will help this child to change his life. |

Ramesh’s mother, Tara, was the first woman client of Setu Nepal. Ramesh’s mother was married at the age of 13 and suffered an abusive and violent relationship with Ramesh’s father. Aged 13 Tara could cope no longer and out of sheer desperation left Ramesh and his 2 siblings with their father in the village. Unfortunately Ramesh’s mother had made no plans and was befriended by people traffickers, lured to India with the promise of a job and narrowly escaped being sold to a brothel. She was rescued by an organization called Maiti Nepal and brought back to Nepal. A case was brought against the people traffickers but they stated that Tara was part of their gang and involved in the crime. Tara served 5 years in jail before being proved innocent and released into the care of Setu.
Meanwhile, Ramesh along with his sisters (Kumari and Rita) remained with their father in the village. After their mother went to prison their father remarried. They are very poor and cannot afford one meal a day. The children used to work in other people’s houses and restaurants to earn their food. Their father has 3 more children from his second wife and stopped caring Ramesh and his sisters. Once Ramesh’s mother was released from jail Ramesh and his sisters were brought to live with her in the Setu house.
Ramesh is the youngest of 3 and he is very dependent on his sisters. He tends to complain a lot but is a very soft-hearted person e.g. if his teacher gives a biscuit to him he brings it home and shares it with everyone. He does like to cry and he can be very naughty! He is good at outdoor games like badminton and football, and is a good player in carom board. He is good in his study and he secures good marks in his exam. |
