Her Bitter Experience Led Her Towards Success in Her Doll Business

Daya 3Daya (name changed) is one of the ladies who disclosed about her HIV infection in her society. Being fair to the society became a challenge for living in her journey of life. She got expelled by the house owner in the rented house. When she went for her health checkup she got neglected even by medical personnel/doctors for her treatment. She was discouraged even from her family when she expressed her interest to give a birth. At that time Daya and her husband had a small grocery for livelihood. Once they disclosed about their HIV status no one came to buy food materials in their shop because of discrimination and fear of transmission. It was very hard for them in that situation. When she did not get any support from anywhere she was completely frustrated in her life and attempted for suicide. Fortunately at the meantime she met with the outreach worker of SETU Nepal and participated in our livelihood/IG training program in 2010. This is the transition point of her life which helped to change her paradigm towards life. She was introduced to many other women with HIV in the training. Training program encouraged her to love and respect towards her and to identify her own dignity. After getting seed money from the training she started her doll making business as her glossary was already being closed. She says " The experience of being fair in the society was bitter but this bitter taste of life led me towards success". Now Daya is happy with her husband and children. Her six year old daughter is also our beneficiary of our education support and doing very well in her studies. She wants to be a successful business woman in her doll business and we just encouraged her to participate in entrepreneur program of the year.
