Rita Gole, 24 years old from Kavre Palanchowk, has been sentenced for 21.5 years imprisonment, which equates to 10 years in the Nepali justice system, where day and night are counted as separate periods. She has spent the last 9 months in Chitwon Jail with her two and a half year old son. Her son is an innocent victim of the injustices of a flawed system, who deserves the fundamental rights of adequate care and education. Her husband’s family are no longer in contact with her, however she still has support from her own family: father, stepmother and brother. A Setu representative contacted to Rita’s father in Kavre to find out more: he is a laborer in a brick factory, and comes from a very poor background. He would rescue his grandson if possible, but cannot afford the living and education expenses for the child. Setu is appealing to our well-wishers who will help Rita's innocent son by sponsoring his education and basic living costs.
