Ramila Gurung (Ex-prisoner)

Ramila Gurung from Lachathang, Nuwakot  was accused of  trafficking her own classmate (girl friend) when she was  studying in grade 10. She was 17 years when she was detained.  She came to SETU half Way home on 22nd May 2006 with the hope of taking the skills development training. She had completed her grade 12 before her imprisonment. She  always had  a  interest in computers  and wanted to work in  the office. So, SETU has provided that opportunity to her and now she has taken computer training. She has finished her basic course.

Ramila was a brights and smart student and was in “Student Union” member when she was in school. Her father was a leader of a communist party. Her father and the leader of congress party were having some political disturbance between them. So one day suddenly Ramila and her classmate were taken by the police and spent 15 days in prison. The main reason for their detention was that they were engaged in different political activities. After sometime Ramila’s classmate eloped with one man. When the leader of congress party came to know about this, he started to web the political conspiracy. He gave some money to the father of Ramila’s classmate and asked him to file the petition in the name of Ramila  blaming she had trafficked his daughter to India. The father filed the petition in the name of Ramila. Unfortunately Ramila’s father and the classmate didn’t know about this matter and Ramila didnt have any evidence so she had to spend 5 years in prison.

Now, Ramila is physically out of prison but the mental traumas and pain keeps hunting her and she has not been able to overcome from that and she and frequently shares that it's really hard for her to trust anyone now. She says that she had  trusted her classmate and had to pay a high cost whcih she will be never able to forget. SETU has also been providing her with psychological  counseling.

She has been living with her old father, mother, brothers and sister in laws near by SETU. Her brothers are job holders. But since Ramila returned from prison her brothers and sisters in laws are not treating her well. She is only staying with her brothers and sisters in laws because she loves her father and mother and she is ready to face any challenges for them. Since SETU’s main goal is to help and support needy women and children and help them to live a better and dignified life.
