Bipasha Gharti (Name changed)

Summary: Bipasha Gharti came to SETU when she was just four.  Her father died when she was eight and her mother is working as a labor. She has a sister who is staying with her mother who was born with safe delivery supported by SETU Nepal and was not infected by HIV. Bipasha is a nine-year-old girl from Makwanpur district, that came to SETU Nepal together with her mother Santi when she was three, in a sick and anemic state.  When Santi got married, she didn’t know that she was her husband’s second wife and that she is HIV positive. It was at that moment that she found out that not only she but also her daughter is suffering from the illness. However, she couldn’t leave her husband due to her health condition and the social stigma. When Santi was nine months pregnant with her second daughter, she couldn’t take proper care of Bipasha anymore and hence came to SETU Nepal. The mother was referred to another organisation for a safe delivery and treatment and Bipasha received immediate shelter and health treatment.

She has now been living in Aarati Home for four years and  a well wisher Ms. Genevive Antile ( http://www.setunepal.org/genevieve-antilles-experience-in-setu/ ) has provided partial (23.5% of total education expenses) support for her education. She is now studying in a reputed private school in grade three and is an intelligent and sharp-minded girl. She is extremely good in her academics. She is now taking anti-retro viral(ART) and her health has improved tremendously. She has great communication skills and we are happy that she is doing so well and that she has found friends among the children of SETU. In addition, she is frequently connected with her family so that the bond with her family get stronger though she is living far from them.  She is also a very good guardian for their younger ones in the home.

Now, she has already lost her father due to many opportunistic infections and her mother is living with her younger daughter in her home town. Because of the low economic status of her mother, we the family of Setu Nepal are trying our best to provide her basic needs for her entire nurturing (education, health, food and other) . We appeal for the kind hearts and helping hands to encourage her for her better future.

We would be highly grateful to the  well wishers who are willing to provide any forms of support for her well-being.
